Aloe marlothii, also known as the Mountain Aloe or Flat-flowered Aloe, is a striking succulent native to South Africa. It is renowned for its large, robust rosettes of thick, toothed leaves and tall, branching inflorescences adorned with vibrant orange flowers.

  • Size: Aloe marlothii typically grows to a height of 1.8 to 3 meters with a spread of 1.8 to 2.4 meters.
  • Leaves: The leaves are thick, fleshy, and sword-shaped, with serrated edges and a bluish-green to gray-green coloration. They can grow up to 90 cm long and form dense rosettes.
  • Flowers: Mature plants produce tall, branching inflorescences bearing clusters of tubular, orange to red flowers. Flowering usually occurs in winter or spring.
  • Light: Aloe marlothii thrives in full sun to partial shade. Place it in a location where it receives at least six hours of direct sunlight per day.
  • Watering: Water Aloe marlothii sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out partially between waterings. It is drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during dry periods.
  • Temperature: Aloe marlothii prefers warm temperatures between 18°C to 27°C. Protect it from temperatures below 10°C, as prolonged cold exposure can damage the plant.
